So my family celebrated Christmas today, since Dad had to work on Christmas day. He's a fire fighter for those of you that didn't know. So yeah, my sister, brother-in-law, and little baby nephew came over to our house to eat linner (lunch + dinner) and open presents. After the loverly linner, we all moved into the living room to get to the presents. Here is the list of what I got:
1. Graffitti looking bag
2. Alice in Wonderland Bag
3. Skirt
4. Black and white strapless dress
5. Transformer pajama pants (which are freakin awesome, btw)
6. Family Force 5's Christmas Pageant CD
7. Hawk Nelson's Live Life Loud CD
8. Switchfoot's Hello Hurricane CD
9. Twenty-five dollar iTunes card
10. Gummy Dinosaurs
11. Italian leather journal with music notes and cuteness!
12. Love and happy times spent with family
Yes, that's all that I got. I didn't even ask for much. Actually the only thing that I asked for was a video camera that you can obviously see that I didn't get. Which, just so you know, I am not bitter about at all. I know money is tight right now, and that my parents did what they could to make it a good Christmas, and really they did. My mother told me earlier this week that there would be more to come, when we had more money. I told her not to worry about it, but she insists on getting me that camera. Which is why I love my mother. She provides for her family in ways that not a lot of stay at home moms do. Even though she knows things are tight, she still tries to get us the things that we may not necesarilly need, but want. Like I don't need that camera, but she still wants to get it for me. She is a very awesome woman and I thank God for her everyday. Thank you for being such a great mother.
Well that's it for my Christmas/Boxing Day. I hope that all of you had a great holiday as well.

What Do I Believe Anymore?
What do I believe in anymore?
The truth of your words?
he touch of your hand in mine?
I desperately hold on to your words.
Trying to stay in the moment forever.
When you say you love me my whole world melts away.
Everything is gone like you never hurt me.
Like everything is okay.
Then when you're gone everthing comes rushing back.
All the memories.
All the pain.
I don't know what i believe anymore.
The truth is shallow in your words.
Your touch is cold to my skin.
Yet I still hold on.
I smile like everything's okay.
My world has been shifted since you walked away.
Nothing's been the same.
Won't you come back?
Won't you help me believe?
The truth of your words?
he touch of your hand in mine?
I desperately hold on to your words.

What People Need To Know About Band
Alot of you think you know what the marching band does. Unless you're IN it, you don't. Or if you WERE in it, that counts, too. I do know that I'm only a sophomore, but I'm always having this conversation with people and I feel like you all should know YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
Are you aware that we have to run several laps a day...in step?
Do you know what "in step" means?
That means that unless every single person's heel hits at the exact same time, (and the correct foot. Which foot you are on is not a matter of choice) we run at least one more lap.
You know we carry heavy instruments, obviously. Some are less heavy than others, but holding them up for nearly eight minutes without puting them down is a lot of work. You may be thinking right now, "Hey Katelyn, you're in pit. Why are you complaining?" And I'm not complaining. I am simply telling you how it is. I mean yeah I may not march, but pit is no easy task either. A lot of people think that all you do is just hit stuff. But that's not true at all. For me it's learning a new clef, playing keyboard instruments with no piano experiance, memorizing cymbal stuff, and knowing how to hold mallets, when to crash a cymbal, when to hold for the snare drummers, learning cadences, and stand tunes. Honestly pit has more to do than anyother section I think. It is no easy task.
Hey, and we have summer band. Just like sports have summer work outs, so do we. Sometimes we'll go forty five minutes with no water break. Yes, some people do pass out. This can cause some pretty nasty bruising for the tuba players (asphalt+tuba+passing out. You do the math). It happens.
Did I mention March-A-Thon? It's in the summer, too. It's ten miles in the heat. We don't have a whole lot of breaks. We still have our instruments, we still have to march just like we were on the field. Nobody asks if it's convenient. It's a mandatory event for all band members unless you've talked to a director way before hand about conflicts.
All this, and we play memorized music.
This is just the basics. Not to mention we go to contest, there's the pressure of doing well, and a million other things that I could go on and on about. I just thought people might want to have an idea of what we do BEFORE they tell us how geeky what we do is.
You guys should really know that facts about anything before you start bashing it. Honestly is it really that hard to ask a simple question and listen for like two seconds about what we really do? Come on guys, you need a little bit of culture in your lives. What better way to start than asking a band member what we really do. Please, before you start to say anything negative about something you know nothing about think it over and maybe learn something about it. Thank you.

Why Do People Think Flutes Are For Girls?
(This was actually a thought from a while ago... I put it on Facebook, and then put it on here.)
So the other day (Thursday) I was sitting in chemistry doing my science equipment lab, when I hear a conversation going on about band.
Now usually I'm not one to eavesdrop, but when it comes to band I'm all over it. Not necissarily making comments verbally, but definitely to myself.
So it was a flute player and a non-band kid talking about a friend of mine who playes trombone. This particular friend is a girl and she also plays bass trombone. The non-band kid was making comments about her to the flute player. Things like, "Oh, I thought only guys played trombone." and the sort of stuff a lot of non-band kids don't realize.
So there I was thinking to myself about the many assumptions people have about us bandies. A lot of people think that guys can't play flute or clarinet without being considered gay, or girls can't play tuba, baritone/euph, trombone/bass t-bone, or be on drum line/percussion because they're manly instruments. I for one don't think it's right to tell a kid they can't play an instrument just because of the way society will view them. The same goes for color guard. Just because you're a guy on color guard doesn't automatically mean you're gay, it just means you like to dance and you enjoy what you do.
Now why people come to these conclusions is beyond me. One of the best flute players I know is a male by the name of Dr. Gary Garner. It really shouldn't matter what your gender is in order for you to play and instrument. It's just like saying, "Only girls can play volleyball and only guys can play golf." You sports kids wouldn't like it if that happend to you, now would you? No, you wouldn't. And I didn't think you would. So before you start poking fun or something about what instrument someone plays just please have an open mind. Some people are only able to play one certain instrument due to how their body is made or maybe a certain reason they play what they do. Whatever the reason there is no 'girl' or 'guy' instruments and it bothers me when people say there are. So if you're one of them now you know and hopefully you won't do it again.

A Time In My Life
Looks like it's that time again. Semester test time. Joy. There's really nothing that I dispise more than semester tests. I mean why do we even have to take them at all? They count for a fourth of our semester grade, and nobody likes to take them. Teachers make them impossible to take and the silence is killer. Why on Earth do they make us take those aweful things?? And kids all across the United States that actually have to take them probably hate them as much as I do. I mean come on studying for like five hours straight and not making a higher grade than an 80%, yeah come one. Nobody wants that at all!! And I for one really dislike the fact that a lot of people say that they're easy then when you go to take them you find that they're not easy at all.
Also, next week is Christmas, and really it doesn't even feel like Christmas at all. It could be that this year my family doesn't really have a whole lot of money and we're just trying to make it by. Not that I care. I asked for one thing, and honestly I would love to get it, but I am going to understand if I don't. There are more important things than me getting a video camera. But anyway I better start wrapping it up and get back watching Vampire Diaries.
I'll update again later!
Austa luego!
